Fooled you didn't he? Leftys underestimate the man at their own peril.

No one underestimates Bush's political tenacity and he's got a pleasant personality much of the time as well. He's also backed by some very rich and powerful interests and has an vicious political "hit squad" behind him. Look at what they did to Clinton after all, even though Whitewater was an empty charge and Clinton was an amazingly successful president. Kerry knows they'll come after him and is prepared.

To beat Bush you have to go mano a mano and tower over him in many respects. It's about substance and image both. Kerry can make Bush look small morally and mentally. He can also take away at least 50% of his pro-military support. I would also like to see Kerry "prosecute" him on the energy scandals as no one has before. Imagine Bush geting away with the lie he hardly knew Kenny Lay. Clinton didn't get away with anything. Kerry as a former prosecutor who accepts no special interest money can hit hard on that. Lieberman took 250 K from Enron so he cannot.

Image-wise, Bush has been able to sustain popularity with the help of post 9-11 patriotism. A streong and almost compassionate facade. Substance-wise though he's cruising for a bruising. Kerry is one man who specifially warned Bush about 9-11 type attacks and Bush did nothing. Kerry also had a stellar war record and Bush avoided.

The GOP tried everything under the sun against Kerry when he ran against Weld and failed. He's been through it. He's ready. And he's kept himself strong and clean. He also has personal money in the nine figures if he needs to use it.

By staying a centrist and with the right running mate who can help him in the south so he can snag a state or two there, Kerry will have an excellent chance of beating Bush. I hope it's Kerry-McCain because I am also sick and tired of all the name-calling between right and left. Those Hannity-Colmes shows are entertaining but the spin and insults teach us very little. We need to learn how to proceed in the wisest ways. Both right and left have meritous ideas. What it comes down to is the center. Right now Bush has their support but it's soft and he's had no competition up until now. Should be a very interesting battle.
