I totally disagree with you, on that.

If you have two groups of people with whom you disagree. not joining either one probably makes them both "perceive" you as an enemy, but it doesn't actually make you into one, except in their perception. And I have no doubt the terrorists would find me every bit as radical as you might (or much, much more radical). But, in reality, not joining either group of thought is simply a choice not to join either group. Your thinking of course is typical of groups with strong identity. I've seen it over and over again. There must be some evolutionary benefit in thinking that way. But then, there are always people who refuse to see things the way others see them. So there must be some benefit in people who think outside the box, and refuse to live in the box in the first place.
