Therefore, killing the fetus is killing a baby, which is not only immoral, but illegal.

Did they pass a law I haven't heard about? Or are you just explaining why you think it should be illegal?

Defending the rights and freedoms we enjoy as Americans has an honorable tradition, not deserving of your contempt. People support the right to bear arms knowing the damage that guns do. People support the right of free speech knowing how destructive it can sometimes be. People support freedom from search without a warrant even though it can allow dangerous criminals to postpone or avoid justice. Etcetera. None of our freedoms is without cost. They all can and do cost lives. And they are still valued principles. We do what we can to mitigate the side effects rather than throw away our precious freedoms.

our ways of understanding the world are just too different

Seems to me that we're caught once again on the matter of how much law we should have. I do not want to see all matters of morality codified into law. You, OTOH, might support making it illegal to not apologize. <g> This difference notwithstanding, I would think you would recognize and tolerate the other side as a neutral difference of opinion.

I have already explained, but ok: there is no meaningful difference between a fetus in the third trimester and a baby that has been born.
Does this mean you would allow abortion before that?
