The next wave of jobs to go to China will be in software where programming costs one tenth what it does in the US. Happy New Year.

I don't think so GST because we are already outsourcing to india the software jobs and there is plentiful supply (obviously) of indian programmers at the same price as china- maybe even less because the rupie(?) is not as strong as chinese currency.

For software, western language proficiency *seems* to contribute to the task. I don't know why. As you know Japan tried to cut off our industries for years and was successful in almost everything except software.

My personal opinion is that this outsourcing of software jobs is about at peak, right now, in the bay area. Next comes the inevitable disappointments that outsourcing does not solve the complex issues that were always there from day one. I'm already hearing rumblings about this... "we outsourced and now we have to scrap it because our requirements aren't met"... packaged app software development will work better overseas.... maybe. We went through this with manufacturing already- remember the US overshot foreign mfg in the 80s.
