You do know that the US gov't admitted it made a mistake with the WW2 Japanese internment, right? And paid reparations?

Absolutely. It was a small disappointment that the German and Italian Americans that were put in the camps didn't receive the same acknowledgement. But that's a different category. A high % of Americans in the 1940s were of German descent. Put them all in camps and that's a logistics problem. If you consider the % of Americans of Japanese descent v. the % of Americans of German descent that were incarcerated, it'a an understandable distinction. At least it is to me; you I'm not sure about.

Back to the point: "mistake". Being a "mistake" is not relevant to this Administration. It is standing legal precedence. It was never deemed unconstitutional, nor was it ever deemed illegal. Consequently, the current Justice Department used the precedence to justify the detention of a US civilian [in the US] at a military facility and assert that individual had no standing in a civilian court.

While not a great parallel, there was a Bush proposal in July 2002 to allow the extradition of US citizens to countries that may or may not have an extradition agreement with the US. Approval of the Attorney General or Secretary of State was the requirement. I don't know what ever happened to the proposal. Perhaps you do.

It would be interesting to know just what happened to persons of German extraction in Britain and France just after WW2 broke out.

Not exactly sure why you didn't also include Japan and Italy, but otherwise I agree.
