Ms. Murray's comments were not of a religious nature.

I didn't say they where. I used that as another example of a case where people are not allowed to say certain things at public school functions.

This is ridiculous. Ms. Murray's comments were controversial only to those who chose to interpret them that way. Its very clear that those currently in power don't want anyone objecting to their vision of the US and the world.

Sorry but there are many of us who disagree with that vision.

If we give so much aid, then the question I think we need to ask ourselves is why is all this aid not getting us the goodwill we so very much need. That's the point Ms. Murray was trying to make.

If that is the point that Ms. Murray was trying to make then it is a good point but she did a poor job of making it.

I thought it was very well done, and she made her point very clearly. Again, you all need to ask yourself why any variation on the stated policy of this country is treated by you as controversial?

Furthermore, none of us know the mood of the day, the mood of the audience, the context in which her statements were made. As far as I can tell, the only objectors here in WA state were Reps. trying to make something political out of commentary that again as far as I can see was not intended to be political but a rather candid discussion of how the US can improve its image in the world.

And frankly, after seeing hundreds of thousands of S. Koreans protesting against US policies, I think its time we look closely at our global image.......it appears to require a make over. Things are very much out of whack. Anti American sentiment has grown by leaps and bounds.

And so you know, I am not new nor sensitive to anti American sentiment.......whenever I have traveled in Europe, Central America or even Canada, I have met people critical of American policies. However, it usually was the basis for a major discussion, not something to be swept under the carpet and hidden from public view. What's new is that there's fear behind this anti American sentiment. Probably for the first time in our history, too many it looks like we are enjoying flexing our muscle and imposing our will on the world.

And yes, I know conservatives don't care much about public opinion and polls. They figure Bush is doing God's work and it doesn't matter what others think. But in reality, Bush is not doing God's work and it does matter what people think, and even if it didn't, it does to me.
