Pay attention <g>two countries tried to have a revolution based on the "Enlightenment." The United States succeeded. France failed. Oh so the Renaissance failed. That's news to me. Is that what they teach you in school, Bill? As a result the USA leads the world, while the French, kicking and screaming, follow along with everyone else, behind us. The US is the undisputed superpower of the world at present. We can have another discussion about why we believe that is so, but I hardly think it has anything to do with the Renaissance. More so, perhaps, with living in an isolated place with little threat from neighbours (some other states are not so lucky), importing Albert Einstein from the Germans, the liberty that has drawn much brainpower from around the world, etc. As far as "Moral Behavior" goes, we will see how the French react after the extremists among their Muslim population turn their attention to shaping up France. We'll see, I guess. However, I am not sure that they ever will. There is a huge Muslim population in France, and they are not up to any "shaping up France" that I can see. If Al-Qaeda turned its attention to France, that would be real colossal idiocy on their part, as France is one of the few rational players left that are opposing Bush's intention to bomb the hell out of anyone he does not like. BTW, have I mentioned that one of the side benefits of having the USA run the world is the ascendency of the English language? No you haven't. Have I mentioned that arrogant comments like the above, like "USA runs the world" is one reason why resentment grows against Americans every day? By the way, it might do you good to realize that people who speak Chinese are twice the number of English speakers around the world, and English is number two, closely followed by Hindustani and Spanish. infoplease.com If any of you French need to clean up your accent, you can always turn on CNN and listen carefully. I do not have an accent in English. And I am not French. BTW, are you getting senile? What's with this sudden conviction that I am French? Yes, I look forward to the future with the certain knowledge that French, once believed to be the Diplomatic Language of the world, is on it's way to becoming just another "backwater" lingo. Oh so that is why you look forward to the future, hm? The childish pleasure you will get if one day no French is spoken anywhere on this planet. That is really sad. Tell you what, Bill. I don't care about French other than the fact that I worked hard to be fluent in it in the past few years, an effort, if I may add, that is very rare among the Anglophone community most of whom cannot speak a sentence in French to save their lives. I don't see what you are driving at, with these insubstantial attacks against the French language. Frankly, I see no connection between the number of people who speak French and moral guidelines that the west hold dear, which, after all, was what I was talking about before you started this vitriol against the French people, the language, and Renaissance.
