Worldwide IT spending to grow 4% in '03, says report
By Semiconductor Business News
January 2, 2003

BOSTON--Following several quarters of negative or anemic growth, worldwide information technology (IT) spending is projected to increase by about 4% in 2003 over 2002, according to a report from the Aberdeen Group here today.

The figure represents a modest jump over 2002. Last year, worldwide IT spending was up less than 1% over 2001, according to the Boston-based research and consulting firm.

The firm also predicated that IT spending will come from enterprises--albeit a moderate increase. “Linux will continue to make inroads in the enterprise in 2003,” according to the report. “On top of a 50%-plus growth rate in enterprise servers in 2002, Aberdeen forecasts a 40% growth rate for Linux servers in 2003.”
