i sent a friend link to GM sales. his response:

Problems with American cars are (a) comparatively poor build quality and horrific repair rates resulting in excessive ownership hassles and costs, (b) disgusting sales people and fraudulent dealer practices, essentially requiring use of a buyer's agent, (c) steep depreciation rates, and (d) poor designs resulting in premature obsolesence.

American cars are really for people in small towns throughout the Midwest, the West and the South who don't know any better and have no other options, and for business people who lease and expense them or can buy and depreciate and trade them in for new ones every two or three years, keeping them under warranty all the time.

I'm a buy and holder, so the American car rip off is not attractive to me.

if they would get off their asses and do a days work (the execs in the US auto industry) I would have half a tear of sympathy for them.
