Dick Gephardt and Sen. Tom Daschle. It was a message of repudiation. The American voters showed their support for President Bush by giving the Republican party a slight increase in the House of Representatives and control of the Senate. The results ran against all conventional wisdom; that the party in power of the Presidency would lose seats in Congress. In contrast, the Republican party gained seats. This feat alone should silence any doubts by the above named, who have questioned the legitimacy of the Bush Administration for the last two years. Already, Rep. Gephardt got the message loud and clear. He announced on Thursday that he will not seek re-election as House minority leader. But Terry McAuliffe is a different story. On Wednesday, he shamelessly spun the 2002 election as a positive for the Democrats. ''As I said, the Republicans' advantage was a tactical advantage, not an issue advantage.'' he said in a press conference. ''So where do we find ourselves now? Basically, the same place we were after the 2000 election--fifty-fifty. Parity. Not much has changed.” Not much has changed? You’re wrong, Terry! You simply cannot see past the 2000 election, which is a big reason your party lost like it did. After the 2000 election crisis was resolved, the leadership of the DNC continuously sounded like a cacophony of crybabies. The constant mantra from McAuliffe, et al has been “Bush was selected, not elected,” in an effort to continue the resentment in the Democratic hard-core. They’ve sought revenge by any means necessary. With the help of Jim Jeffords, the Senate was hijacked by Tom Daschle, whose job was to obstruct the President any which way he could. Even the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, did little to change the rhetoric. From the War on Terrorism to the handling of the economy, the Democratic leadership gave the impression that George W. Bush and the Republicans were more of an enemy to America than Osama bin Laden or Saddam Hussein. Blinded by their thirst for vengeance, the Democrats did not give people a reason to vote for them. Instead, they waged the usually predictable scare tactics about race, social security, guns, and abortion. Compared to the “new tone” that the Bush Administration brought to the White House, the Dems were arrogant, petty, and self-obsessed, as they were more concerned about the reacquisition of power instead of doing what is best for America. They have become a party with no new ideas, no identity, and no new young leaders. Their chief fund-raiser is still the disgraced former president, Bill Clinton, who is the Golden Calf to the Democratic hard-core. When the Democrats needed two new Senate candidates, whom did they choose? Frank Lautenberg and Walter Mondale. Gee whiz, I guess it’s time now to dust off those Foghat 8-track cassettes and polyester suits. Now, Gary Hart is thinking of making another run for the presidency. He was a party favorite for the presidency until an extra-martial affair ended his run five years BC (before Clinton). As a Compassionate Conservative, let me give the Dems some advice. Your party is in shambles and needs a major overhaul, if it wants to be taken seriously. For one, Terry McAuliffe (if he had any pride) should resign. Instead of the DNC chairman, he plays the party mascot by continuously making an ass of himself everytime he appears in public. The Clintons, the Gores, their Hollywood allies, and radical leftist constituencies also need to take a hike. The Democrats have long claimed to be champions of the working class. However, they look as if they represent the interests of the elite more than the common man. But will they take the advice? It doesn’t look like it. Oh, well.
