Check out this list of subversion that I've come up with (including Nixon's thrawting of the 1968 Paris Peace negotiations to end the Viet Nam War, and the October Surprise that the Reagan camp pulled off against Jimmy Carter to delay the release of the American hostages in Iran). The Republicans love to portray themselves as the party of American patriotism. And the foolish American public accept their propaganda on face value without looking at the true nature of the facts and the Republicans treasonous actions. Let's take a look........ Let's start with the 1968 Viet Nam War Paris peace negotiations. The February 2001 issue of Harpers Magazine has an article by Christopher Hitchens called, "THE CASE AGAINST HENRY KISSINGER", also in Hitchen's book, "The Trial of Henry Kissenger". In the article Hitchens details Richard Nixon's 1968 campaign's efforts to subvert the Paris peace negations that were being carried out by the Johnson administration. They did so by independently/secretly contacting the leaders of South Vietnam and telling them that they should wait for a Republican administration before agreeing to a peace deal, because the Republicans would offer them a better settlement. This act of subversion against our sitting government by the Republican Nixon camp was not only illegal under American law, it was an act of treason that probably caused the unnecessary deaths of thousands of U.S. servicemen in Viet Nam. It shows how little regard the Republicans really have for our fighting men. How about Watergate? These "patriotic" Republicans subverted the public trust and the idea of democracy by breaking into the opposition party's (Democratic) headquarters. This is the type of thing you'd expect in a Banana Republic, not an advanced democratic country like the United States. It just goes to show how little the Republicans respect the institutions of American democracy. Breaking into another party's headquarters in a direct assault on democracy. How about the 1980 hostage crisis in Iran? Many people in the know, including the Iranian President at the time of hostage crisis and former Reagan staff member Barbara Honiger, have flatly stated that there was a secret deal between the 1980 Reagan campaign and the Iranian government to ensure that the American hostages weren't released before Reagan took office in January, 1981. The hostages were in fact released just minutes after Reagan was sworn in. This act of treason is known as the "October Surprise", because the Reagan campaign was worried that Jimmy Carter would gain the surprise release of the hostages in October, just before the election.. This real-life conspiracy and act of treason forced these poor American hostages, their families, and the American public as a whole to needlessly endure months of the hostage crisis for the political benefit of Ronald Reagan and the Republicans. This treasonous act shows you how little the Republicans really care for Americans in hostage situations and the American public as a whole. How about Iran-Contra? Again, from 1981 through 1986 the Republicans treasonously traded with a hostile country, Iran, in order to further their political ends in the war against Nicaragua, so they could fund the Contras, who were fighting the leftist Sandanistas in Nicaragua. This treasonous act was done against the recently passed law by Congress called the Boland amendment, which cut off funds for the Contras. This act of treason directly subverted the powers of the legislative branch to make laws that the executive branch is bound to follow by the constitution. Again, this shows, how little regard Republicans have for our constitution and democratic form of government. Also, the Republicans, under the direction of George Bush and Ollie North, drew up plans to suspend the constitution and round up dissidents. All this information is available in the documentary available on Amazon.com called "Cover-up: Behind the Iran Contra Affair". How about the much talked about "Clinton scandal" called Chinagate? It turns out that again that this act of reason occurred during a Republican administration, not during Clinton's administration. The nuclear secrets were stolen by the Chinese during the Reagan administration in the 1980s. Read about it at consortiumnews.com Our latest glimpse of Republican treason and disdain for American democracy just happened in the 2000 election. The Republicans did all they could to suppress the vote and stop the recount in Florida. If the Republicans truly believed in democracy and wanted to win fair and square, you'd think they'd want ever last vote to be counted and their man declared the rightful winner. See, for more info:news.bbc.co.uk Anyone who is interested in really understanding the treasonous nature of the Republican party should investigate the stories and the sources that I provided above. I am not making this stuff up. If you want to really understand what's going on, look into this stuff.
