Have you read Eugene McCarthy's speeches.

He seems to have had you & Hanoi Jane pegged.

:-)

Just finished reading it, yes. Thanks for posting it. Eisenhower had the best interests of the future of our country in mind, clearly.
I particularly liked this:

"Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."

I see I'm beginning to draw the same kind of fire that you do here, which is interesting. I'm not a very political person, yet identify myself as liberal. I'm quite liberal wrt social issues, more conservative wrt fiscal ones.

I'm relatively moderate where most issues are concerned and have no problem asking questions and eventually changing my mind (as I did about the death penalty this year).

I've got a number of SI friends who are quite politically conservative because, as in my real life, I don't base friendships on political stance. I have no trouble taking members of either the left or right to task when I think they're being hypocritical or generally idiotic. I am one of Ray Duray's vocal nonsupporters, for that reason.

Yet here I am getting nasty comments from people because I identify myself as liberal and speak to you respectfully. It's a strange world. :-)
