Income tax is a drag on the economy too, and a bad message to send, a penalty on initiative ... while taxes on consumption are generally less deteriorating in their effect [? - arguable, probably] ... anyway it's not a tax on 'energy use' i was proposing, definitely not, i meant a highly selective one on petroleum products only, then was musing on widening it to coal ... but the idea is to stimulate a tech revolution in energy generation and use, while raising the same taxes in a less destructive manner, and cutting down on middle east economic power as well .... so your backyard hydrogen generator and your fuel-cell car would go scot free, and your paycheque free of income tax too, you'll have more to spend on sin which will itself stimulate more taxes ... what's not to like -g-
