<All that investment spending you talk about capitalizes on cheap labor.> Your months in Hong Kong 20 years ago gave you an impression that belongs in a museum. China is a cheaper place to do business than the US or Europe -- but the current wave of investment goes far beyond exploiting cheap labor -- although there is a lot of that around. It is about the billions of dollars being invested in research and development and the hundreds of thousands of engineers that are graduating here every year. It is about an economy that has been growing 8% a year for 20 years. It is about an urban population larger than the US population and growing fast with a sizable middle class. The China you briefly "knew" no longer exists. It is a stereotype that only satisfies people who do not have a clue about what is going on today.
