The energy crisis peaked as GW Bush took power and kept peaking for 4 months thereafter. The Houston Enron crowd were the only ones who knew the secret mechanations. Shocking fact, do you know the White House doesn't even have regulatory power over the oil business to stop gouging, but depends upon an honor system with them to report facts and numbers accurately. Well they didn't at all. The supposedly non-partisan Petroleum Institute became a Bush-Cheney campaign force, as it is run by oil CEO's including Cheney. They became partisan all of a sudden and pushed for MORE deregulation. Once the Bush-Gore race was on they socked it to CLinton just like they socked it to California and the US consumers in general. And Cheney and Abraham toured the country telling Americans this was a market-driven crisis, a real crisis and that the only answer was 1300 new polluting power plants (build by Halliburton and other cronies at taxpayer expense) and that we need to drill everywhere and anywhere ASAP. Then Enron and others hired Ed Gillespie top GOP operative to put out a 5 million dollar TV campaign to blame the energy crisis on Davis and Clinton. Total shameless lies. Once Grey Davis and others caught out to the mammoth ripoff it was too late. They tried for justice but Bush stacked the deck at FERC with his cronies and the latest ruling gives California no refunds at all despite overwhelming evidence of fraud. The fix was in, has been in and is still in and it all is rooted in Houston. Bush Central. The energy crisis ended the week after Jeffords switched parties. Suddenly there was an energy glut though Cheney had lied and told us refineries were running at 100% capacity and no more supply was available. The reason it ended when Jeffords switched was theat democrats suddenly had subpoena powers. They have them no more and this bunch of crooks is likely to get away with it completely, a 100 billion ripoff and October surprise subversion of a presidential race. Ironically, many of the companies who carried out this ripoff went under afterward. Several suicides. The Enron collapse. James Baker's Reliant escaping investigation. Cheney going into hiding and stonewalling with his energy papers which prove collusion. etc. etc. etc. Dont try to drag Clinton into this. He was stabbed in the back, as were most Americans. And dont think this cannot happen again. The energy business has no one to stop them when they want to create a crisis. Especially with their buddies Bush-Cheney in power.
