I agree that semis are probably not a good place to invest -- but do keep in mind two things: First, it is the Taiwanese who are investing in semis in China, and they are dominant players in the market. Second, the investments are not being made for nationalist reasons -- these are private investors making market-based decisions, which could turn out to be bad decisions, but they are not politically motivated.

Part of me suspects that some of the China miracle is being funded with funny 'money' ala Enron SPEs and WCOM capacity swaps.
