How about "irrefutable proof" instead of "beyond a reasonable doubt"?
"Irrefutable proof"? What's that? There is such a thing? I can think of no part of science, no theory, no scientific fact, that is supported by "irrefutable proof"?

Newton's Laws were once thought of that caliber. Einstein and Bohr, Born, Schrodinger, Pauli, et al, proved otherwise. And it is not unreasonable to believe their theories will eventually be overcome by events.

"Irrefutable"? There is no such thing. Just throw away the death penalty if that's the requirement.

One thing I do not support is systems like California's where people are sentenced to death every week or month but never seem to get executed.
Nor can I. It's an expensive joke.
