Worldcom paying off Bond Debt??

According to Nov/22/2002 calculations,
the Total Worldcom Bond Debt was $30.735 Billion.
As of Jan/09/2003 a re-calculation indicates
the Total Bond Debt is DOWN to $27.684 Billion.
Worldcom has actually been able to retire $3.051 Billion in debt,
probably at market prices of 26 to 46 cents on the dollar.
Why would they pay any debt if a swap for equity were to take place?
Unless they are buying debt that stands in the way of their re-org.
I believe that the re-org is primarily bond maturity extensions.
I will detail this in the next post.......
This would save about $23.75 Million in interest payments per month.
This could drop them down to
$168 Million in original bond interest payments per month.
This is looking better all the time!

This leaves:
$24.288 Billion of WCOM Bond issues
$02.590 Billion of MCI Bond issues
$00.806 Billion of Intermedia Bond issues
$00.000 Billion of Brooks Fiber Bond issues {paid off}
They paid debt that matured in the years 2006/7/8/9.
