Susan Kalla was on cnbc the other day talking about the FCC bill (link from ibexx 3 posts ago) which she feels will benefit network equipment companies in 2004- she mentioned cisco only. This bill says the rbocs no longer have to lease their local lines cheaply ... guess that means they can become monopolies again unless the competition wants to staff up in maintenance people. Rbocs rallied heavily on this but Kalla says vz and sbc have a sell rating anyway. The benefit of this bill is more financial strength for existing players and new players have to build out their own networks if they want to compete.

I'm still not quite sure how this benefits the optical companies like ciena but that was the start of this rally a few days ago. Next the fndry numbers which were strong and extr better than expected.

I read that some networkers got upgraded today but I don't see it on briefing. It sure looks like some upgrades next week for ciena at least judging from the block buys I see.
