I disagree with your characterization of the supposed preoccupation with Clinton. I doubt that Krauthammer, for one, has ever written a shrill column in his life. You do not agree that Clinton left a bit of a mess. OK. Consider this, however: all of this "cooking of the books" seems to have occurred under his Administration; the stock market slide, which was foreseeable for years, was largely forestalled off of his Administration's cheerleading and easy credit, only to be inevitable towards the end of his Administration; the North Koreans have said they played him for a chump, taking his money and ignoring their obligations to cease working on nuclear weapons; Al Qaida had already made a try at the World Trade Center, thankfully foiled, but the administration continued to treat matters like that and the explosion of the Kenya embassy primarily as police matters, rather than coming to grip with the real threat; the 9-11 team was mostly in place two years before the event; and so on, suggesting that the previous Administration, through its fecklessness (at least) dumped rather a lot of Bush's plate. But no matter, I was not talking about conservative columnists, I was talking about Bush himself, who does not seem to dwell on recrimination..........
