My opinion is that the grand plan is to solve the mid-east problem, including Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and extending control and influence emanating out of Iraq to the whole region. Guarantee of Israel's security is paramount. They want to prevent Armageddon, but would this instead be the cause?

Yes, happily, Saudi Arabia may be neutralized, oil will flow like water and cheaper, the world economies will rebound and flourish, and love and peace will prevail throughout. That I believe is the plan. Bush recently stated that economically the US couldn't survive another terrorist attack, and that is why he is pressing on.

Pretty risky...?

If war, experts predict a quick win.

Long-term consequences?

My opinions only.

Phil

I think there are three principal reasons for the hostility towards Iraq, or rather towards Saddam:

1. Almost alone in the world, he refused to condemn the WTC attack.

2. George W. wants to complete the work of his father.

3. Now that the Soviet Union seems much less menacing, an attack on Iraq seems a safe way to let the U.S. have a nice interesting little war that the country seems to need every 5-10 years to feel important enough.

Now if Bush manages to cause an internal overthrow of Saddam by applying just the right amount of threatening pressure, without actually starting a shooting war, I might even think about voting for him in the next election.

No matter what he does, I think we are going to have bad inflation over the next 5-10 years and that people who own gold will be glad they did. Already are.

WTC attack revealed Saudi passive complicity in terrorism

the writing on the wall is clear for all to see
Saudis produce terrorist killers, finance terrorist terrorist organizations, cheer on terrorist activity, teach Wahhabbism fundy teachings, and harbor the world's largest oil production and reserves

Russia aids well in offsetting threats to oil supplies
but Iran and potentially other Gulf Emirate nations could withhold in times of open conflict

the summertime lawsuits against Saudis only underscores the gravity of the situation on the financial front
this threat to Saudi Arabia is multi-faceted
military, financial, social, religious, commercial, terrorist

I give Saudi Arabia until late 2004 before it cracks wide open
