I don't know. I can see free education all the way through college. It costs at the time, but the increased education and understanding and earning power of the graduates more than pays that cost back.

Let's say it cost $400,000 of taxpayer money to put me through college (and I expect that number is on the high side). That education probably easily tripled my earning power. The state would get it's money back through taxes in 20 years at the outside. And then it gets about 20 years of profit.
