Hackworth may be a good soldier, but he could be Exhibit A in the long-running argument about who should command the military, civilians or military, on the side of those who argue that civilians should call the shots (no pun intended).

Also, he is opposed to action in the Persian Gulf because he believes in Gulf War Syndrome, and believes the government is lying to cover it up.

If I had to bet, I'd say Rummy is probably closer to being right than Hackworth.

BTW, I formed my less than favorable opinion about Hackworth months ago. He's squarely in the age-old tradition of blue-collar workers hating and fearing people who sit at desks.
