These are relatively minor issues when compared with, for example, the problem of maintaining the ability to grow enough food. Of course, genetically altering food products (to enhance productitivity) is considered by environmentalists to be inappropriate. Do we, or don't we?

Unfortunately, this issue has more to do with personal selfishness than it does any real interest in environmental issues. When is the last time you heard Patricia Ireland bring up environmental issues whilst enunciating her support for Partial Birth Abortion?

It took four million years for the population to reach 2B. The second 2B took 46 more years. 22 years for the next 2B. This is not a trend that even extreme environmentalism is going to make a dent in.
