Republicans are not in control of the Supreme Court since it is a nonpartisan body. The Republicans do not have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate so cannot be said to be "completely in control" of it. Some democrats have to go along with any legislation that gets passed and so share responsibility for whatever comes next.
