The great inflation days of the 70's were sparked by the oi embargo.

While I agree that oil problems in '74 and '78 exacerbated inflationary problems, I don't believe that oil was fundamental cause. I don't agree totally with the monetarists (M. Friedman et al), but I do believe it is hard to understand the working of inflation without understanding their perspective. In no way, am I out to change anyone's view. Rather, I'm merely saying that if, in a couple of years, you find that inflation is both occurring and increasing, don't be surprised.
