UBS Warburg ups gold price forecasts
01/15/2003 10:14:56 - By Susan Lerner
Gold is one of just a few sectors moving higher. UBS Warburg analyst Brian MacArthur is brightening his outlook for the precious metal, expecting a favorable supply-demand balance, a weaker U.S. dollar and continuing geopolitical uncertainty to help the commodity. MacArthur raised his average price forecast for the yellow metal to $353 an ounce from $320 for 2003 and to $356 from $333 for 2004. His long-term forecast remains unchanged at $325 an ounce. Against that backdrop, MacArthur upgraded Goldcorp and Freeport McMoran to "buy" from "neutral" while also raising his price targets for those companies and others in the sector. The CBOE Gold Index is up 0.4 percent.
