The complete story is that Gould's marijuana use was to ameliorate the symptoms of and pain caused by his incurable abdominal cancer. He died recently at age 60 - a great loss.

Same structure, same intellect, same ability to solve problems empirically and analytically. Jaynes' ideas are theological crap. Homo Sapiens was domesticating animals and engineering the genes of plants 10,000 years ago, fer chrissakes. 5,000 years ago humans were most definitely NOT wandering around in an unconscious state imagining that the voices in their head came from God.
