It's amazing how quiet it is today, given that options are expiring and the indices are selling off. As always, it's time to ask the 64 dollar question, is the following the VIX and is it low?

The answers are Yes It Is The VIX, and Maybe. Here's the spx; my tummy tells me a meltoff here below 900 could be very bearish and indicate that the January Effect left the building:

P.S. Movie recommendation: Catch Me If You Can. Really a fine film, from the opening credits (super) to the end, a bit of an homage to those 60s movies (Boeing, Boeing; The Pink Panther, To Catch a Thief) in style, if not in substance. Ya gotta see Leonardo DiC's orange and while "Italian knit" polo shirt, if you went to school in the 60's. Anyone remember Banlon shirts, double knit trousers and blazers?
