I have some acquaintance with Chomsky, Marcuse, Gramsci, the Frankfurt School, and other leftwing thinkers. I know all about how the bourgeoisie is supposed to have coopted the working class by means of its cultural hegemony; how even apparently innocuous things, like photos in magazines, encode bourgeois values and make them appear natural, rather than constructed; how news organization are beholden to advertisers and the larger corporate culture, and reflect its assumptions; how the methods of financing campaigns assure the dominance of corporate influence; and so forth and so on. I was once on the Left. I stopped buying it.......
