One should look at the pattern and see it it can be explained fully, or partially by other causes. IN the blacks case, certainly academic achievements and lack of family structure, are two causes. The black population will never achieve parity until the whole community recoginises the value of education, and the value of discipline, accepting responsibility, and honesty; Discipline in showing up every day, on time, no excuses, with a good work habits and attitudes. That is what employers are looking for, and willing to pay the big bucks for; and unless your race has them, will always be on average, the lower paid employee, not foremen, supervisor etc. The Asians have those traits, and have been able to overcome the white's big advantage of experience, ownership, and nepotism. You explanation is a bit on the simplistic side. By your standards, the Latinos as a group should not be experiencing the level of racism that they do experience because they as a culture espouse the ideals of education, hard work, being on time, and yet they suffer racism almost to the same degree as blacks in this country. Racism is a cruel and seriously damaging psychological tool of which the full extent is not known. In the fifties or sixties, they conducted an experiment in an Iowa elementary school. The teacher announced one day that she had just found out that the kids with darker/brown eyes were in fact better than the kids with lighter/blue eyes. They were smarter, prettier and more popular. From that point forward, the kids with light eyes began to defer to the kids with brown eyes. Even the most passive brown eyed kid became dominant. The school work of the brown eyes began to improve while that of the lighter eyes began to suffer and worsen. The actions of the brown eyes dealing with the blue eyes was disgusting to watch......they were condescending, demeaning and bullying. At the beginning of the next week, the teacher announced that she had made a mistake......it was the light eyes who were superior and the dark eyes inferior. The same thing happened but in reverse. That was two weeks in the life of a small group of 5th graders.......try to imagine the effects of much worse behavior on a whole race spanning nearly two centuries. Your solution of more discipline is a white man's solution seen from a white man's perspective. Nice try.......but its too little too late. It will take a lot more effort than that.......40 years of AA is helping but its not done the trick...not yet. And then you have a smuck like Fudd making a silly mantra of King's I have a dream. Stupid does as stupid is.In this case, Asians have a higher median educational level and yet, make less than their white counterpart. Do you think they ask for a lower salary in order to be polite? No, but when you are looking at a class of people, many times other things are responsible. For instance, the Asians have been making great strides lately, and have pulled even, however, haven't totally overcome experience, property ownership; the natural inclination to hire ones children before others, etc. Your ability to only look at racism, as a cause, also makes you a racist. You are unfairly crying racism, when you haven't looked at all of the other options. Lots of words that say little......again explain to me how someone can be better educated and get less pay than a white person? How a woman can be better educated, more experienced and make less money than a white man? Why does the glass ceiling still exist as evidenced by so few minorities/women holding significant positions in our society.....certainly much less than their percentage of the total population? Either admit that's its racism, genderism etc, or explain to me how white men are better and therefore, should command higher salaries than their minority/women counterparts. ted
