if a parent is scarred by racism and they behave in a particular way to a person from another race especially if that person is the dominant race, then the child picks up on that behavior. In addition, alcoholism, drug usage, lack of motivation etc., qualities characteristic of an underclass, can be attributed at least in part to racism and are passed down generation after generation.

If the lingering effect of racism that you want to compensate for with AA is a negative attitude then I don't think it should be compensated for. People have to deal with their own negative attitudes, even if they got them do to an injustice done to their parents or even directly to them. Special bonuses are unlikly to change the attitude in any case except perhaps to add a sense of entitlement.

I hope that we can agree there are some important disparities when it comes to the income and overall quality of life between whites and non whites in this country. Assuming that we do agree, what do you think is the cause for those disparities?
