Ted, <if Asians are in near parity with whites in terms of education and income as you and Harry proclaim so vehemently, why do you think they should be treated differently/separately from whites when it comes to this issue of AA?>

You have me mistaken for someone else. I do NOT think Asians should be treated differently than whites. Nor do I think blacks and Hispanics and any other racial group should be treated any differently.

However, you'll find that many Asians do indeed want special treatment from affirmative action because of the racial obstacles they had to overcome. According to them, racial bias still exists in the workplace and in society, and Asians still hit a "glass ceiling." The notion of "model minority" is a myth, a stereotype given by whites to silence their calls to action. They fear the elimination of affirmative action is a continuation of whites denying that Asians have real struggles, too.

Personally, I think these Asians are being duped by the politics of victimization, but that's a different story.

Ted Re...And now you ask why they have been "screwed over" by AA.

If you would bother to read Tench's post, you would see that he isn't asking for AA programs. He is saying, now that Asian community has overcome all of the problems the black community has, why are they now being hurt by programs which help the blacks, but hurt the Asians. Why have the Asians done all the work to get to the top, only to have the blacks whine themselves to the top. Shouldn't the black community be made to do the necessary work, just as the Asians have done?
