I remember staring in awe at a calendar of evolution of life on earth, squeezed into a year for familiarity's sake, in Carl Sagan's "Dragons of Eden". Take a look at this: admiralty.pacific.net.hk Big Bang happens and January 1st begins. Formation of the Earth is September 14th. First worm surfaces on December 16th. First humans appear 10:30 PM on the night of December 31st. Neolithic civilisation (first cities) is 11:59:35 PM, less than 30 seconds to midnight. Invention of the alphabet 11:59:51 PM, renaissance in Europe is 11:59:59 PM. Now, we are in the first second of the new year.
