GSM side benefits with GSM1X

1. The operator gets almost two times network voice capacity increase plus the ability to offer the subscriber a phone with the benefits of CDMA2000 1x. (w/MSM6300)


This is true only to the extent that 1.25 MHz channels are used for 1X. That is, the portion of the vendor's spectrum which is used for CDMA gets this benefit, while the remaining portion of spectrum still being used for GSM does not. On the plus side, the 2 to 1 ratio is for comparing 1x to previous version of CDMA. When comparing to GSM the ratio is higher, more like 4 or 6 to one but I'm not sure.

2. The operator can continue the use of traditional GSM/GPRS handsets on the upgraded GSM1x network

So long as they maintain some spectrum for GSM this is true. Could continue in decreasing amounts for years.

3. The subscriber gets the benefits of CDMA 2000 1X-(w/MSM6300) better voice quality, lower radiation, high data speeds (up to 144kbs)

Only those subscribers using a CDMA 1x phone or a dual mode phone in CDMA mode.

4. The ability to roam onto other GSM and CDMA networks throughout the world (w/MSM6300).

True.

CDMA side benefits with GSM1X- (MSM6300)

1. Greater coverage by using the operators GSM network

Each GSM1x BTS that extends the CDMA coverage over part of the GSM territory can be seen as taking the place of one or more CDMA1x BTSs that would have extended the CDMA network. There is a gain by not having to build a new network for CDMA but there is a corresponding loss in that the existing network is not optimal for CDMA.

2. The ability to roam onto other GSM and CDMA networks throughout the world.

A dual mode GSM/CDMA phone can roam onto either CDMA or GSM networks of any of the carrier's roaming partners if the frequencies are right. That is, if the GSM is 900 it can't roam to an 1800 MHz network, etc. Same w/CDMA.
