The state is in place to govern the mutual participation of individual members of humanity, juxtaposed with humanities interests in the individual. No. Our state is in place to protect individual liberties. We had enough of kings and dukes forcing serfs to perform labor for them. We stand for liberty. Individual rights. We give the government the right to make laws to protect these individual rights. You can go kill yourself but you have no legal premise for humanity to authorise it, I'm not asking them to authorize it. I'm asking them not to forbid it. Before we had a govenrment in this country, every person here had the right to commit suicide if they chose to. The government can't GIVE that right -- it was already mine. The government can only TAKE IT AWAY. I am telling them not to.
