That improvement is helping China build intercontinental ballistic missiles which will be accurately pointed at U.S. cities. The improvement, at its core, may have been a complex soldering technique. Either way it was an illegal transfer of technology. As to the broader issues regarding China, Beijing has not ruled out the use of force should Taiwan declare its independence from China, and Chinese officials repeatedly block Taiwan's efforts to gain greater international recognition. So, there is little doubt in my mind, without American military power, China would forcefully take over democratic Taiwan. Tibet was brutally attacked and is still being occupied by communist China. Tibet had very little defensive capabilities. They were certainly no offensive threat to China. Human rights abuses continue in Tibet. I understand your point about democracy. However, there has never been a time (that I can think of), where a major democratic nation built on relatively free-market based principles has attacked another one. Therefore, peaceful, civilized coexistence seems to fit best with democratic free-market ideals. Defense contracts are paid for by taxpayers. Whenever Loral sells a contract to the military it's being underwritten by taxpayers. That's the point I was trying to make. As you've pointed out, capitalists go where they believe they will get the the greatest return, commensurable with their risk tolerance. Is it any wonder the democratic free market based United States has been such a beacon to these investors?
