You aren't going and neither am I and neither are very many Americans. 100,000 of 280,000,000 is 1:3,000 Most people wouldn't know anyone serving in harm's way. That's their job. It's not the high death-rate occupation of the bad old days. Not for USA forces anyway. Which isn't to say the risks should be taken casually, nor that the people on the front lines and beyond the front lines are not deserving of admiration for courage and talent. I don't seriously think that I'm saving the world - I'm just another tiny cog in the wheel. I was making a little joke, with an element of truth. I understand that being on the front line is far different from paying the bill. <our people give disproportionately in the cause of freedom today > Actually, Japan has been complaining that they are giving way more per GDP per capita than the USA to the UN. But yes, I agree the USA pays a big chunk and should get more bang for their buck. The UN is not doing what it should. The USA is big enough to pick it up by the scruff of the neck and reshape it to something more representative of We the Sheeple. I'm paying a good chunk towards USS Enterprise via my QUALCOMM taxes. I also fund NZ military services which have been in Afghanistan and are now in the Persian Gulf and another frigate leaves on Tuesday. Keep it in proportion, get off the high horse. We are all in this together. There are no sidelines. It's not just Americans being killed by terrorists, as you know. Nobody is being conscripted in the USA. There are no press gangs. <hardest of all it is for those who are self employed. > Mqurice
