JJ,
I meant that the Kosovo war was essentially a US operation. The anti-US attitudes in europe come largely from US being world cop. This would not always be necessary if other nations would shoulder some military responsibility. My view is that they wont because they cant afford it due to "socialist" type systems they have. Being a world policeman is not a profitabe occupation. Please note that in Gulf War 1, US was compensated for its expenses by other nations. I dont think Europe can have it both ways. What if US follows french/german lead and does not intervene in iraq and worst case scenario happens there. European will be far more hurt by oil blackmail than the US but they will not have the means to protect themselves or preventing this from happening. Perhaps you could enlighten me on the state of the French and German military, apart from nato. Could they deploy to iraq and if so would they be sure winners? How modern are their armies? I think the Europeans should take another look at the world they seem to be wishing for. They may be shocked if they would be honest with themselves. mike
