there seem to be two versions of what went down.

What does this mean? The two nationalreview articles are totally consistent with one another; the author apparently just took time to further research questions that had been brought up after his first story. At any rate, both articles appear to be well-researched and totally support the notion that Pickering is being subjected to nothing less than a Borking.

The third article apparently makes only passing reference to the case and, if anything, by being short on facts and long on innuendo, would seem to support the position that the Dems are out of line on this case. I saw nothing in the articles indicating racism, and really, there were several areas where he appeared to take strong positions against racism.

This is a case of the Democrats making a political power play. The good news is they've lost. Pickering will be confirmed.

The article you lined to didn't seem to be a version of what happened in the case. It was rather a report of the hearings going on now and only made a small refrence to the case. It didn't refute any idea presented in the National Review articles or provide much detail or any new theory about what supposedly happened.
