One doesnt change ones views from being a democrat to being totalitarian. Two things cant be more far apart. No he was a communist who respected americas revolution and revolutionaries, not its ideals. And if he praised our ideals, it was to fool us or it was praise of a twisted version of those ideals or both. mike

Karen,
During WW2 we were allied to communist regimes such as USSR and vietnam. As i recall the chinese civil war ceased and both sides fought the Japanese. Vichy govt ruled france and indochina during the war but post war it was Free French who wanted to continue to colonize indo china. Ho was a freedom fighter in vietnam and drove the french out. Mao drove out a rather corrupt nationalist regime in china. In Vietnams case they look for US support for French were true imperialists and the US is one of the first countried to fight off the yolk of imperialism. Doesnt make them democrats you know although it was in their interest to make us believe so. You told me to read up on this. Please provide me some sources of yours. If i am wrong i will admit to it. It seems to me this argument about HO goes on and on. I have never been convinced to date that he was a believer in democracy who changed his mind one day and thought totalitarianism to be a better system. mike
