Also I think the hoopla surrounding Y2K created a lot of demand for technology related products. That and Wall St. suits throwing millions at any company that had .com in their name.

Have you forgotten 9/11? The economy will not "catch fire" until investors feel that terrorism has been stemmed. Judgement on that will be tenuous for some time, unless there is a dramatic breakthrough. That any president can "manage" the economy is a foolish myth.
