Hi Carl - Turkey is an ally of the US, but it is to be remembered that the current Prime Minister is an Islamist.

Not that long ago, Turkey was governed by a military dictatorship, and their military is favorable to the US.

I am not aware of any reason why the US-Turkey alliance should not remain in full force and effect, but if it's going down the tubes, we'd do well to ally with the Kurds, who are presently in charge of the Northern No-Fly Zone in Iraq, and are very ardent in their appreciation of the United States. Unlike Mr. Gul, Ms. Zonder, and several others of Turkish persuasion.

But on balance I believe that Mr. Gul no more represents Turkish military than Herr Schroeder represents German military, and the rest are blowing smoke.
