hi tc

tauscan gave me some problems on winxp (it wouldn't complete a scan, actually), then i didn't get responses from tech support for like 4 or 5 days so i adiosed tauscan. but i chose it in the first place because it had lots of trojans in its database. on the downside, it does not handle polymorphic trojans, so i just uninstalled the program and put trojanhunter on all drive partitions.

man, you sound like some sort of tech savior for your friend. he is very fortunate to have you there to clean up after his mess. do you think he learned from what you did for him and showed him?

that is one heck of a menu of funky nasties you obliterated from his machine. and what an array of cool tools you used!

i recently posted on the winbbs thread about helping a friend who had 17,753 temporary internet files on his computer. he had had his puter less than one year. i could tell by his expression when i asked how often he cleared his temp files that he had No Idea what i was talking about, so those 17,753 files have been accumulating since day one. whew! that was the most i'd ever seen, you know?

well, you should have seen the replies i got! <g3>

one dude said, "after approximately two months I´ve got over 36,000 files in 33 folders, a total of 321 MB but it takes up 757 MB on the disk."...

and another guy posted, "On a clients computer I have cleared more than 100,000. On another individuals computer I once cleaned 320 spy/adware entries."

i'm still shaking my head over 100,000 tif's!

:)

mark

everyone should wear their "browser condoms" as a rule<g>

Automatically Clearing the Temporary Internet Files

You can have Internet Explorer automatically clear your Temporary Internet Cache files every time you close the program.

Go to Tools / Internet Options
Click on the Advanced button
Scroll down almost to the bottom and check Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed
