Does it matter that the LAPD has had a history of not dealing well with the different races in LA?

No, it doesn't. LAPD can't be charged with a crime; the individuals were. LAPD cannot be guilty of brutalizing an individual, the individual officers could be.

At any rate, the point is that just because six cops went nuts beating the crap out of someone doesn't make it a racist activity, or a civil rights violation. White people get the crap beaten out of them by cops all the time.

What about when the NYPD bumfucked a black with a baton? do you think they would treat a white man the same way?

NYPD didn't do it, some rogue cops did. My recollection is that there WERE legitimate civil rights issues involved in that case, although my memory is fuzzy on it and I don't want to look it up. There WERE NO such issues in the Rodney King incident.

The point that you've missed (as did the author of that that article) is that just because someone is black and beaten up or otherwise ends up being the victim of a white crime, that does not make it racially motivated.

A month ago in the small town I live in a 27-year old white girl was shot dead by a young black man. There was no evidence of racism. It was a murder. Should we call it a racist act because it was a black murdering a white, or does the term "racist" apply only to white on black crimes?

You and most liberals apply a double standard to these crimes. I think that is Pickering's point, and he is correct.

It matters in the sense that it influences how people will think and react but it doesn't prove that the situation came about because of racism.

What about when the NYPD bumfucked a black with a baton?

Racist or not (and I lean towards thinking it was), it was clearly unjustified, abusive, and illegal.

How about when three guys took off the arm of a black man in TX and then dragged him behind their
car until he was dead?

I would assume that was a racist act unless they had some other motivation that stood out.

How about the woman who got gang raped in MA........she was wearing a short
skirt? They thought she was a 'ho......does that make it okay?

Of course not but I don't see what this has to do with the rest of the questions or the posts that preceded them. All your questions were about abusive situations and you asked if it was racist. This last question doesn't mention racism and your just asking if it was ok. None of the situations you asked about where ok.
