VIX: Jim, I find this indicator fascinating, and
have been studying it for some time now.
Any target you on working with for a VIX high,
before we might see a market bottom again (at least
an intermediate one?)

My own working target is around 45 as a point of
lower-risk entry on the upside. But, I'd welcome
your insight.

Jim:

If the DOW doesn't hold the 7900 (the October 11 H) it seems it should test its L that day at 7540 or the October 10 L at 7197.(That was below the September 1998 L of 7401)

After that the next "support" (<g>)seems to be the January 1997 H at 6906.There seems to be "better support" <g> at the Summer of 1996 Hs at the 5500 to 5700 level. Many bears have been talking about having their "target" set at the Summer of 1995 level(4700 to 5100).I certainly hope we don't go back that far.<g>
