Gee, and all this time I thought that elected officials carrying out the peoples' wishes was a GOOD thing...

That's a tricky one, I like to think that (visionary and brave) elected leaders "lead", even in the face of opposition from home. Our best time for input is when we grade them at election time. And, to a large degree, what do we really know about running a government in its myriad detail -- that's what we elected these folks to do. We pass judgement on their over-all performance later on down the line.

Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing, ShilohCat. Our Founding Fathers clearly thought so when they did not give the House of Representatives the power to bring down the government with a vote of no confidence. We have representative government with fixed terms. What for, if not to give the representatives some degree of freedom between elections?
