I am aware that Turkey (...) is among the secular Islamic governments

Fred, what is it you do not understand? It is not an "Islamic" government (nor is it "Islamist", which I think you meant to say). There are political parties. There are democratic elections - one vote per person, no less. The name of the country is "Republic of Turkey" or "Turkish Republic", not "Islamic" or something.

Also, I don't want the USA to be exempt from international law, and I am not arguing that we are saintly. I am saying that Saddam is a criminal. As such, he must, along with others, be accountable.

Which others? Like Pinochet? Or like the guys who decided on the crime against humanity of nuking two heavily populated civilian cities? You talk like every other man who has ever caused atrocieties and suffering has been held "accountable" and was aptly punished.
