okay, i missed that you talked to umax first. sorry.

but i still think your best option is with umax, given that no one can find a win2000 system file named ns3400.dll, and it is umax's software that is asking for that file.

the tech who sent you packing off to dell was wrong.

i recommend that you either call umax again, or email them, and explain what you have learned regarding ns3400.dll.

i even searched the win2000 installation disk. i didn't find it there either.

i searched umax's knowledge base to no avail. they have a "support account" option, but they ask for your email address and password, so that's all for you to try, if you haven't already.

perhaps someone else on the thread with win2000 will let us know if they found the file.

short of that, it's back to umax, the way i see it

:)

i posted in your behalf to a couple other forums, trying to expand the field of users who run win2000.

so far, two replies, both with w2k SP3 systems, and no such file...

re results from the other venues...

three people posted back on one forum... all running w2k and no sign of ns3400.dll

three people posted back on another forum, all running w2k and no sign of ns3400.dll, however....

one fellow did post an advanced google search that has revealed the elusive ns3400.dll file
groups.google.com

note that the poster is saying that these files are on the scanner cd... "This is the root directory of the CD with my scanner"

anyway, i hope this puts you a step closer. maybe not. i know i learned something, which is why i like coming to the cl thread.

good luck

:)
