RE:like me, is not a Bush supporter and against the impending action in Iraq without solid proof of the existence of WMD's.

Iraq admitted having 30,000 chemical warheads a few years ago. They agreed to destroy as part of the peace plan after the Desert Storm war. They have shown no proof of their destruction. The weapons inspectors found sixteen. That means TWENTY NINE THOUSAND, NINE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY FOUR CHEMICAL WEAPONS are UNACCOUNTED FOR. That's lots of evidence, IMO. Just because the Iraqis won't let the weapons inspectors find them doesn't mean they don't still exist. Saddam is not cooperating with the inspectors and threatens to kill scientists who talk freely to them. You trust this guy more than Bush and company?

shame that the group of protesting poets let their self-righteous indignation get in the way of the promotion of something they love

They ruined it for everybody and it appears that the source of it all was a single trouble maker who declined the First Lady's cordial invitation and had the unmitigated gall to ask others to do something he was not willing to do himself. God protect us all from such friends and colleagues. Laura Bush was trying to do something nice for the arts and was placed in an impossible situation by those who wanted to abuse her goodwill.

her reason being that poetry needs the support of the administration, now more than ever

I honestly do not understand why.
